Foster Parent Appreciation Event Recap
Tikinagan celebrated its third annual Foster Parent Appreciation Day with a heartwarming gathering of over 120 attendees across Northwestern Ontario in eight communities on March 23.
The event was part of Tikinagan’s efforts show to thank those who care for our children and youth during our annual Foster Parent Appreciation Month.
“On behalf of Tikinagan Child and Family Services Board of Director, Elders, Youth, staff, and myself, we want to say Thank You and we want to honour you for making that commitment to help raise healthy, thriving children,” said Thelma Morris, Tikinagan Executive Director, in a video message during the event.
Broadcasting live from Thunder Bay, the event was hosted in Cat Lake First Nation, Pikangikum First Nation, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, and Dryden. The event featured magician Mackinley’s Delusions and activities for Foster Parents to build connections, share stories, and win prizes.
Rachel Tinney, Tikinagan Associate Executive Director and a former Tikinagan Foster Parent, shared her appreciation for more than 220 Tikinagan Foster Parents via video message.
“It was through the service model Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin that I really felt connected with the children and youth at Tikinagan. I felt if we all work together to help our children, help our youth become successful that we can do it if we work together,” said Tinney. “I want to thank you for opening your heart, home and your families, and providing stability and love in times of uncertainty and transition.”
