Tikinagan and SLFNHA Formalize Partnership to Strengthen Community Wellness

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and Tikinagan Child and Family Services (Tikinagan) are proud to announce a new partnership aimed at strengthening the wellbeing of children, youth, families, and communities across Kiiwetinoong. The two organizations formalized its collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the SLFNHA 2025 Annual General Meeting, held September 10–11 in Lac Seul First Nation.

This new partnership marks an exciting step forward for both organizations, who share similar mandates and a commitment to working together for healthier communities. Through this MOU, SLFNHA and Tikinagan will co-develop strategies and joint initiatives to support healing from intergenerational trauma, address mental health and addictions, and strengthen families and communities in the Kiiwetinoong region.

The MOU establishes a SLFNHA-Tikinagan Partnership Table to guide collaborative efforts, share resources, and create joint strategies. Areas of focus will include:

  • Developing regional approaches to service delivery
  • Sharing best practices
  • Advocating for the health and wellness of First Nations communities

Together, SLFNHA and Tikinagan are committed to advancing long-term strategies for healing and wellness, ensuring all children, youth, and families are supported in safe, healthy, and thriving communities.

SLFNHA is a First Nations health organization serving 33 First Nations communities in the Kiiwetinoong region, dedicated to transforming the health of Anishinaabe people through strong, community-led systems of care. 

Guided by the Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin service model, Tikinagan provides child welfare and family support services to 30 First Nation communities, many of the same First Nations SLFNHA serves.
