Tikinagan staff, Wapekeka First Nation Host First Annual Community Spaghetti & Bannock Lunch and Clothing Giveaway

Tikinagan staff, in partnership with Wapekeka First Nation community members, hosted a Spaghetti and Bannock Lunch and Clothing Giveaway recently.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and were very appreciative of this event,” said Lisa Makela, Direct Service Supervisor, adding that she expects it to become an annual event in the community.

Community members enjoyed a meal of beef and moose meat spaghetti prepared by Tikinagan staff, Makela and Peggy Rae. The bannock was prepared by community members. Clothing and other items were donated by Tikinagan workers and the Prevention Unit.

This event is a great example of a partnership between one of our communities and our staff that embodies Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin.

Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin, meaning “everyone working together to raise our children,” is a system of protecting and caring for children and supporting families. Tikinagan shares the sacred responsibility held by parents, extended family and community members to care for children. Caring for children includes caring for their families.
