MEMO: September 30 (New Holiday)

Re: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

To ensure the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools is never forgotten, the Federal Government designated September 30 as a General Holiday for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation for Federally regulated employers.

Although Tikinagan Child and Family Services is a Provincially regulated employer, we have chosen to also honour and observe this as a General Holiday with pay each year beginning September 30, 2021.

We encourage staff to use this day off to participate in Truth and Reconciliation events and reflect on the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools as well as honour those who were lost and the survivors, families and communities who continue to grieve. Tikinagan will also be holding activities throughout the week in recognition of this Holiday so that we can mark this together in our workplace.
