Hear Us Youth: Making Changes for Youth in Care

Noodawishinaam Oshkiniigiwag (Hear Us Youth) team member Kris Moore from Fort Severn First Nation recently got the chance to talk with CBC’s Mary-Jean Cormier in Thunder Bay. Moore shared her experiences growing up in care and with Tikinagan Child and Family Services’ youth team “Hear Us Youth.” The team is made up of youth between the ages of 16 and 26 from Tikinagan’s 30 First Nation Communities and provides a voice for children and youth in care.

“There is change happening. The Elders especially have faith in the youth and us to make change,” says Moore. “There’s been more attention brought to the child welfare system and the chance to perhaps re-shape it to help prioritize the youth in care.”
