Tikinagan Child and Family Services is looking for youths to help guide our agency in its support of children, families and communities. Two youths, one male and one female, are needed to serve as youth representatives to Tikinagan's Board.

These attributes have served Nate well in his job as a Tikinagan residential care worker over the past 20 years, visiting and supporting foster parents in their care of children.

Two agency homes open in Pikangikum

Tikinagan Child and Family Services recently opened two agency-operated homes in Pikangikum, allowing more children in Tikinagan care to stay in the community.

Kari Jacobson, Tikinagan service manager for residential care, says the homes will be used for emergency placements, with children cared for by live-in foster parents.

Raising the Children sessions start February

Raising the Children, a program for Aboriginal parents, will be offered by Tikinagan prevention co-ordinators in several First Nations starting in February.

Already delivered by Tikinagan staff in Sandy Lake and Kasabonika Lake, the program will expand to other communities after more prevention co-ordinators received training in December as Raising the Children facilitators.

Hockey legend visits Tikinagan supervisors

A sellout crowd of nearly 46,000 chanted and celebrated seeing Reggie Leach and other former Philadelphia Flyers take to the outdoor ice Saturday for a special alumni hockey game against past New York Rangers.

Far away, in November, Leach met fans in Sioux Lookout fewer in number but just as enthusiastic when he made a surprise visit to a Tikinagan Child and Family Services supervisors meeting.

Many helping hands for Deer Lake feast

Deer Lakers lined two rows of tables stretching the length of their school gym, while those who couldn't get a seat found a place alongside the stage on one side or the folded bleachers on the other.

With other servers, Kenny Meekis walked the rows of people, an estimated 150-200 of them, dishing out spaghetti and pouring tea and coffee.
